The development of cars and motorsports has been enormous in the last few years, and even though you might think you are up to date with the latest news, perhaps you might have missed out on some? Do you know the difference between the different classes that are driven within rallycross and which cars that are in the different classes for example?
Ramudden World RX of Norway is the closest thing we get to Formula 1 conditions in Norway – so read away and recharge for this year’s championship at Laankebanen! During Ramudden World RX of Norway 4 different classes will drive, and we will give you an insight into what is unique to each one:
World RX This is the big news of the year – and it’s the most awesome electrical car in the World Rallycross! Electrical cars you say? Don’t think that the race will be silent in any way. Noise belongs to Rallycross, and it is created by the roar of the engine that has more than 12 000 rotations per minute. Simultaneously the screeching tire sound and the clouds of dust which are synonymous with Rallycross will of course remain. This will be fully electric and fast-paced entertainment at its best! In many ways we can call the World RX the new supercar, as it takes over the petrol-driven World Rally supercar, which is the type of rallycross car that our national hero Petter Solberg excelled with. The new car is fully electric, and it is a four-wheel drive. The car and the class are brand new, so in essence we could call it a ‘Norwegian premiere’ when they start at Laankebanen.
The cars are extremely fast on acceleration, 0-100 in 1.7 seconds, in fact faster than a Formula 1 car! The cars in this class has a total weight of 1300 kilos. The electrical “kits” for the World RX-class is supplied by the Austrian ‘Kreisel Electric’, where one of the co-owners is none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger.
During this year’s Ramudden World RX of Norway 12-14 cars are expected at the starting line in this class, and we promise that it is going to be one Hell of a show!
RX2E Another electric car will start at Hell in 2022, and this is the electric version of the famous ‘supercar lites’. The original ‘supercar lites’ ran for 7 seasons with a petrol engine but was revolutionized as an electric car in 2021. The car is still quite similar to the old one, but it’s a smaller version of the car in the World RX class. Big stars are expected to start in this class, and in 2021 there were a total of 24 cars on the starting line. Famous rallycross stars who drive in this class are, for example, Christine GZ, Klara Anderson, Guilome De Ridder and Ole Henry Steinsholt.
Euro RX1 This is the class that is formerly called the EM supercar, formerly it was the largest class containing petrol engines of around 600 horsepower. In 2021, our own favourite Andreas Bakkerud went to the top in this class. If we look back in history, the class can be compared to those Martin Schanke and Petter Solberg rode in their heyday. At Laankebanen in August, we can expect more Norwegians to start in this class, and well over 20 cars in total. Here we get a real deep sound and the authentic petrol smell that we are used to!
Euro RX3 The class was formerly called EM super 1600. These are series production cars with front-wheel drive and engines of up to 1600cc. The cars in Euro RX3 have approximately 230-250 horsepower. The class is a good recruitment class for the slightly heavier classes, and here we expect good representation from Norwegians. In Euro RX3, we have had Norwegian drivers at the top for several years, and many more to come.
Did you also catch some World Rallycross fever now? We most certainly did! We look forward to this year’s Ramudden World RX of Norway in August – and we can guarantee fully packed paddock areas with the coolest cars and the most awesome drivers – this is going to be a rare and memorable celebration.
